Their GEP, GED and DEF Series
of Electric Grippers are ideal for such specialized applications as
food-handling and/or medical-type applications. These grippers
eliminate the risk of dust and fluids contaminating your environment through
air lines. But don't worry about sacrificing quality for cleanliness!
Sommer's electric grippers are precision instruments that, for example,
adjust the gripping force by using a potentiometer (more precise than
pneumatic lines). An Electric Gripper includes a DIN rail style controller,
so you just have to wire it to your PLC and you're ready to go!
All That in One Gripper…
The GEP, GED and
DEF Series boast many impressive features for grippers with such a modest,
compact size and weight. The GEP
Two-Jaw Series and the GED Three-Jaw Series Electrical Grippers each come in
four sizes and two jaw types (a T-slot style jaw for larger loads and sealed
round guide jaws for applications that require a unit sealed against dirt
and dust). The DEF 60 Swivel Unit offers a
rotating option for electrical gripping applications. All these models are
designed with multiple mounting options and as a group they feature a gripping force up to 350 N (77 lb), a quick 0.2 seconds
opening/closing time and a 24V power supply requirement (12V supply
optional).

It's such a simple
operation, really. An Electric Controller is included and only requires a
standard 24V power supply. Techno-Sommer also offers an Electric Rotary
Actuator, on the DEF60 model, that is capable of up to 330° of rotation and
puts out 1.6Nm (1.18 ft-lbs) of torque. Adjustments to the speed,
